JUAN JOSÉ CAMISÓN
Born in Torre de Don Miguel (Cáceres), in the fifties of the last
century, he makes his first studies in Fuente de Cantos, Badajoz and Cáceres
(Spain). BA in French and English from the University of Salamanca (Spain) in
1972, he becomes, after following specialization courses in Paris,
Aix-en-Provence (France) and at the University of East Anglia, in Norwich
(England), Professor of Spanish Language in Nice (France). In 1982 he is
received as Associated Professor to the French Chair of the Normal School of
Cáceres (Spain), where he is Professor of French Language and Literature, at the
Faculty of Teachers Education of the University of Extremadura (Spain) until
2009.
He has received, among other awards, the "Gabriel y Galán" and the "Luis
Chamizo" Prizes of Poetry, and he has been finalist in the "Poetry Prize Ateneo
1st. May of Madrid".
He has published Essays in the JOURNAL OF FRENCH STUDIES (Journal of Romance
Philology Department of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Extremadura,
Spain), in ARS ET SAPIENTIA (Journal of the Royal Academy of Extremadura's Letters
and Arts Friends Association), in the Journal FESTIVALS FOR WALKING AND
DISCOVERING, and in the digital magazines BELSANA, VIRTUAL TOUR AMONG
EXTREMADURA, LANDSCAPES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BORDER, HUNDRED PER CENT EXPERTS,
THE WILD MAIDEN, and many other publications...
He participated in the First and Second Congress on the Extremadurian
Language with interesting presentations. His is the "MANIFESTO OF THE
EXTREMADURIAN DIALECT", read in the I Congress.
But mostly he has written Historical Novel, in shape of Short Stories, and
Poetry, both, in Spanish Lanuage and in Extremadurian dialect.
As a writer in Extremadurian dialect, Juan José Camisón demonstrates with the
use of the word and the many nuances of the Extremadurian language (in
situations as diverse as tenderness, tragedy, sarcasm, eroticism or insolence)
that, far from being the extremadurian language a dialect of boorishes -as some
persons like to label it-, it is a versatile language, rich and deep, that can
express the feelings of the human being as well, if not better, than the
Castilian or any other language. Being born in Caceres, however he never forgot
the rich vocabulary from the other department of Extremadura, Badajoz, in which
he studied being young, and where he learned it, preserving it always in his
mind and conserved in all his poems (Luis Martinez Terrón: FIRST EXTREMADURIAN POETRY
ANTHOLOGY: FROM GABRIEL Y GALÁN TO JUAN JOSÉ CAMISÓN).
In Spanish, both poetry and prose, he is a committed author to serious
literature and literature of quality, jumping over fads and fashion tastes, and
focusing his work on creating a rigorous style. Professor at the University of
Extremadura (Spain) for 38 years, in whose classrooms he taught French Language
and Literature, he has traveled tirelessly among the intricacies of the texts of
those authors who mean for him, actually, a literary reference and a stylistic warp,
from François Villon or Rabelais to Camus, from Victor Hugo to Sartre, from Huellebecq to Flaubert, Baudelaire or Beigbeder ... While not denying
the
Arabic Literature (ONE THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS mostly) and great writers as Pessoa,
Borges and Paul Boules, that have left a deep impression on his mind.
Fussy and strict to an unbelievable extent, both his prose and his poetry
exude excitement and perfectionism, and always evoke exotic worlds, erotically
charged most of the time, that does not leave the reader indifferent. His
intimate and loving poetry, especially LOVE SONNETS, is full of unquestionable
quality. To read his poems is to enter into a private world filled with
evocative sensations and to get lost into deep wells of surprise, emotions and
desire ...
His latest book, THE SITARIST OF JAISALMER AND OTHER MYSTIFYING TALES and
MYSTIFYING TALES II: THE INVISIBLE ONES, are two collections of extreme, intense
and amazing short stories, in which the reader is trapped into an almost
never provided solution, through an amazing prose and suggestive proposals,
leading towards unexpected outcomes ... Love stories remain along the time
always because they are
unfinished stories ... The rapture of love exists because lovers ignore that
the disarter awaits them, at the end of all ... Life is unpredictable and it
can always be hidden, at every turn of the road, a dagger to lop us...
Always concerned about the folklore of Extremadura and its roots, he has
studied several of the ancestral rites taking place in the region, apparently
inserted into Christian celebrations, bringing light to the dark origins of many
of the ancient festivals of Extremadura: the Capazo in Torre de Don Miguel, The
Jarramplas in Piornal, the Pero Palo in Villanueva de la Vera, the Guider Dance
in Caceres, the Carnival in Hurdes, the Singing of the Ramo, etc..
As a medievalist, he has translated and made a complete linguistic study of
the first French literary text, from the IX century: The Cantilene of Saint
Eulalia.
